With this new shirt from Roots of Fight, we pay homage to the legendary Ruby Chow. See below for Ruby Chow story.
In 1959, Bruce's parents were very worried that he was going to bring dishonor to the family with these fights and trouble he was getting into back in Hong Kong.
His parents decided this was a perfect time for him to be able to get away from all these problems. He came to Seattle and stayed with family friend, Ruby Chow.
Ruby Chow and her husband Ping were the first to open a Chinese restaurant outside of Seattle's Chinatown. Ping was a close colleague of Bruce's Dad, Lee Hoi-Chuen. Ruby and Ping helped not only Bruce, but almost everyone they could in the Chinese-American community.
"Bruce told me - he wasn't shy about it - he told me he wanted to prove to his father that he could go to university without [his father]. And he asked me would I let him stay with us?
I'll do it! If I'm able to do it, I'll do it."
